"The Ad Sidera exhibition is a congenial event which helps us to relive fragments of what the erudite Jesuit had established as an appendix to the imaginative transformation of the city as envisioned by the popes and created with extraordinary results by the artists."

Paolo Portoghesi

The volume accompanies the exhibition Ad Sidera per Athanasius Kircher and provides a path into Kircher’s world, through a series of works created by Cybèle Varela for the Roman exhibition in the Collegio Romano. It contains color illustration of each work in the show and features a foreword by Paolo Portoghesi and number of essays highlighting aspects of Kircher’s personality and life, relating them to the artist’s creations. Eugenio Lo Sardo and Mauro Giancaspro present an amusing and literary perspective of Kircher’s world of wonders, featuring Captain Meraviglia’s visit to the Museum Kircheriano, while Francesco Sisinni and Alessandro Orlandi texts deal with the Museum’s history and that of the Collegio Romano. An interview with the artist by Enrico Salvatore Anselmi is also featured.
